Game publishing

Publishers have the role of distributing games financing them and the marketing alongside it. There are plenty of reasons to go with a publisher and many reasons for not. With publishers taking care of marketing, financing it allows for developers to focus on the game. Though if you where to decide to go with a publisher you can lose less creative freedom with the game itself. In relation to our project I see it would be more beneficial do go with a publisher if we where to release the game as a full game. The reasoning for this is for a triple AAA the team size is pretty small and being able to focus more on the game and not spend time and resources our self doing the marketing.


Game Marketing

There are many ways to market a game some are more easy and don't cost money though depending on how people or well know you are will depend how many people will see it, platforms like Twitter/X or Youtube for example are easy to use for marketing but can vary in view count. An upside of platforms like Twitter/X is community engagement. Game events such as EGX or Insomnia can be a great way to get in touch with other developers and engage with people in person.


Weekly Sprint

This week sprint me and the other level designers focused on created maps/layouts for the 3 levels we where going to create for the game in which we would show our leads the concepts we have created. So for the week we went on to create concepts in which we would then get together to choose what we wanted to show to the leads. I used a combination of both traditional and digital tools to create the layouts ideas. I would first draw out all my concepts onto paper first until I made a few that I think would work I then would move them into Krita which as a digital art tool helps as its grid tool helps making sure the lining is straight and looks neat and improve upon them. We then showed layouts we made during the week and then picked out the levels we wanted to show and get feedback on.


This now allows us to start white boxing the levels which is the task that was given to us for next week this was put onto the Jira for us to complete I throughout the coming week. A problem that did occur that caused a problem was a level designer deciding to give leads a layout not agreed by the hole group which would cause confusion and it did. This was sorted out however during midweek meeting that the leads and PO's decided on


I believe I was able to achieve my set task for this week as at the end if the sprint me and the other level designers have created map layouts appropriate for the game that the team is creating and allows us to progress further.


Monday meetings

The Monday meetings are meant as weekly catch ups where each member will say how far along a task they are or weather or if they have completed a task. These meeting help everyone get a better understanding of how far along we are and help the leads know what needs to be done next which allows them to prepare for the next sprint. This is also where the layout confusion was sorted and by simply bringing it up we were able to sort out the confusion.
